Lido Malkasten – When Art meets innovative cuisine

As one of the oldest artist associations in Germany, the Malkasten am Hofgarten is a genuine Düsseldorf Institution which sees itself as a place for meeting other people. The Lido Malkasten Restaurant also believes in a philosophy of companionable discussions and sharing, with its Shared Eating concept. The interior reminds visitors of the legendary art history of this place, and it was designed by Rosemarie Trockel, Germany’s most famous female artist. The open-plan kitchen gives visitors a full view of the food preparation processes. The contemporary, internationally-inspired dishes invite you to experiment and try new things. The menu is divided into five sections: “Mixed”, “Meat”, “Fish”, “Sides and Shares”, and “Sweets”. It really does have something for everyone.

Here, art meets cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, and it is popular with everyone, not just art fans. There’s the restaurant, the vintage-look bar and the garden terrace — everything goes together perfectly. If you’d like to experience something special, you should definitely take a look inside the Lido Malkasten.

Japanese art cuisine in the awarded restaurant Nagaya

Düsseldorf is versatile and has a lot to offer, for example the largest Japanese society in Germany. Between Immermann- and Klosterstraße, just a few hundred meters away from the central station, there are numerous Japanese shops and services next to each other. Here in “Japantown”, the Japanese restaurant Nagaya is located. Certainly, there are even more traditional Japanese cuisine restaurants in the district “Little Tokyo”, but the Nagaya was the first Asian restaurant in Germany which was awarded with a Michelin-Star.

The chef and managing director Yoshizumi Nagaya combines Japanese-European cuisine in a sophisticated, clear and precise way, which lets you float in the gourmet sky. In the stylish, puristic and brightly designed restaurant, Iceland redfish, Breton lobster and Basque veal are served as naturally as Yuzu, Ponzu and Dashi. Without question, a large menu in Nagaya is one of the most interesting culinary events you can experience in Germany. The dishes are characterized by a very precise aesthetics, excellent product quality and a lightness that runs through the entire meal.

Bavarian specialities in HeimWerk Altstadt

O’zapft is! At HeimWerk in Düsseldorf’s Old Town, around the corner from Carlsplatz, Bavarian specialities are served. With the opening on 7 November 2019, the Munich-based company Heimwerk expanded on the Rhein – the third branch is also the first outside Munich. Contrary to all the clichés, the down-to-earth and cosy atmosphere also fits here, in Düsseldorf.

Classics such as Schnitzel (also vegetarian), Backhendl and Bratwurst give the guests a “Bavarian” feeling. Since home cooking does not necessarily have to be prepared with meat, you will also find vegetable dishes such as spinach dumplings and various salad specialities. Signature dishes include veal and pork schnitzel as well as Kaiserschmarrn. The drinks’ menu includes wines, cocktails and of course Bavarian beers as well as old beers to toast the Bavarian-Rhenish friendship!

The menu itself is like a modular system in which the guest can put everything together as he or she pleases. You can also order several snacks for sharing or trying out and combine them with any accessories you like.

The fresh food is prepared exclusively from regional and high-quality ingredients and without artificial additives or flavour enhancers. With the open kitchen, guests can convince themselves of this with their own eyes. The Düsseldorf HeimWerk has almost 300 seats inside and outside plus a bar. The rustic wood panelling on the walls, the home-made tables and lamps and the loving details of the interior furnishings create a homely atmosphere.
